This camp will cover the fundamentals of both drawing and illustration, allowing you to experiment with new materials while building your skills in various techniques. As your drawing skills grow, you will also learn about storytelling and the narrative tools that we can use in art.
Gather scraps and some of your well-loved clothes and turn something old into something new! Learn all about upcycling techniques and create wearable art pieces that you can show off around town. From paint to patches, sewing, printing, and more, you can turn your old clothes into something fresh, stylish, and good for the Earth.

Design in the digital world! With the provided iPads and Procreate, students will translate their skills from paper to screen! By practicing real-world fundamentals in digital, students will work towards creating a final digital art piece. We welcome newcomers and pros alike to come try their hand at digital art!
Take the challenge to create art that can be worn. Using both traditional and non-traditional materials, students will explore new techniques and design concepts, learning to manipulate and transform materials in new and creative ways.
Join us for a week of drawing live animals who visit our studios! Students will immerse themselves in learning the basic anatomy of each visiting animal while strengthening their drawing skills. Come learn the basics of figure drawing! Students will focus on the basic principles and helpful tools that are needed for drawing the human form. Students will learn about perspective, proportion, scale, fundamental shapes, forms, and more! Students will use anatomical models to understand the basic structure of the human figure and explore movement through gesture drawing with a live model. No experience required.
Students explore hands-on printmaking techniques to create bold, original artworks. You will learn the full creative process - from sketching and carving to inking and pressing - while experimenting with texture, layering, and color. Guided by an experienced instructor, particpants build technical skills and leave with a collection of prints that reflect their personal style. No experience required.
Creativity comes to life through hands-on drawing and design projects. Students explore techniques like character creation, digital illustration, and visual storytelling while building their own unique artistic style. Guided by an experienced instructor, students collaborate, expermiment, and leave with a portfolio that showcases thier imagination and growth. No experience required.
Do you have a budding artist? Private lessons are available for youth (ages 6-11) and young adults (ages 11 - 16). Lessons will include 4, 1-hour sessions guided by an art center instructor. Lessons involve focused instruction on drawing or water-based painting mediums, customized to fit the student's creative interests. Lessons are for individual instruction. Group lessons are available for a maximum of 2 students. Please call for group pricing. When registering mulitple students for a private lesson, one parent is responsibile for coordinating the availability with other parents.
Private Lesson Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel a lesson, we will need 24 hour notice in order to reschedule. There are no refunds after the first lesson.

Full refunds or credits (minus the cancellation fee) will be offered if cancellation is made 10 business days or more prior to the start date of the class, workshop, lab, or camp.
A 50% refund or credit (minus the cancellation fee) on the cost of the class will be issued if a cancellation request is made within 6-10 business days prior to class, workshop, or camp.
No refund or credits will be given for cancellation requests made 5 business days or less prior to class, workshop, or camp. There are no refunds after the first session of the class, workshop, or camp.
No refunds, credits, or make-ups are offered for individuals who miss a class session, workshop, lab, or camp. No refunds or credits if asked to leave a current class, workshop or camp due to misconduct. Please read our behavior policy.
Through the Susi Larsen & Cameron Serbu Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Madeleine Christenson Scholarship, the Maude Kerns Art Center is able to provide arts education to all who are passionate about art but may need financial assistance to achieve their artistic endeavors. Scholarships are available for all age ranges and all classes with the exception of private lessons.
We are currently offering 50% of the cost of tuition (which does not include any material or studio fees).To be considered applicants must fill out the application prior to registration and payment. If awarded, applicants will be contacted for the remaining payment.

In the event of bad weather, including snow to high heat conditions, the Art Center will hold any outdoor classes inside. If traveling to the art center isn't advisable, we will cancel classes for that day and a make-up session will be held at a later date. Please check our website for updates after 12 pm on the day in question to see if afternoon and evening classes are canceled.


MKAC has a parking lot for art students, visitors, and staff. If you happen to arrive for your class and the parking lot is full, please come into the office and grab a parking pass. This will override the street parking time limits for your class time!
