The Maude Kerns Art Center presents the 31st annual “Art for All Seasons Membership Show” and “Club Mud Ceramics Holiday Show & Sale,” opening on Friday, November 17, with a Reception from 5 – 7 pm, and on view through Friday, December 15. Exhibit receptions are free and open to the public. The 2023 Title Sponsor for the Art for All Seasons Membership Show and Club Mud Ceramics Show & Sale is Journey Tree Financial Planning and Investments.

The Art for All Seasons Membership Show and Club Mud Ceramics Show & Sale is the Maude Kerns Art Center's largest exhibit of the year. In 2023 the diverse artistry of over 170 member artists fills the galleries. Art for All Seasons features plaster works, paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints, photography, metal, sculpture, jewelry, fiber art, wearable textiles, tapestry, basketry weaving, mixed media, fiber art, collage, ceramics, art quilts, and video art. Members of Club Mud, the Center’s onsite ceramics cooperative, exhibit functional and decorative pottery, sculpture, and wall pieces.

The annual Membership Exhibit provides a venue for both emerging and established artists. The exhibit offers a perfect opportunity to purchase unique, original artwork by local artists. Artwork is available in many price ranges, ideal for holiday gifts.

Joan Chamberlain exhibits On a Clear Day, an acrylic painting of a wine bottle and glasses on an outdoor table, where the shadows and reflections create a stunning visual display. Her art explores the experience of food and wine in all its aspects – “growing it, preparing it, bottling it, serving it, sharing it, enjoying it.” Chamberlain says that her “intent is to invite the viewer to find their own memories in the settings of my art.”

Shelly Fredenberg displays her ceramic pieces in the “Club Mud Ceramics Holiday Show & Sale.” The line, form, and texture of her clay works reflect her experiences in nature, from which she draws much of her inspiration. Fredenberg’s work, which is created by hand one piece at a time, has been shown in local, regional, and national exhibitions. She shows a variety of work in this year’s exhibit, including her playful ceramic snails.

Leah Sowell shows two acrylic paintings in the 2023 “Art for All Seasons” exhibit, including a lively abstract piece entitled Cathedral. After a long break from her early love and practice of art, Leah returned to painting during the pandemic. She says of her work: “The life force I sense in the Oregon landscape now drives my paintbrush.... The bold colors and gestures I use are my attempts to capture the vibrant energy and soul of the land - not as my eyes see it, but rather as my heart feels it.”
