The Maude Kerns Art Center is pleased to present two exhibits, the 23rd annual Mayor’s Teen Art Show, featuring artwork by young artists, ages 13 – 19 years old, in the Main Gallery and the Whiteaker Printmakers 2022 Emerald Print Exchange, presenting original fine art prints from 11 countries and 20 states in the Art Center’s Salon Gallery. Both exhibitions are on view September 9 – 30.
The Mayor’s Teen Art Show showcases work in a wide variety of mediums by 32 talented teens from 11 area schools. This year’s exhibit was juried by artists River Banks, Patricia Montoya Donohue, and Karen Perkins. A Reception and Awards Ceremony with Mayor Lucy Vinis takes place on Friday, September 23, from 5 – 7 pm. The Title Sponsor for this year’s Mayor’s Teen Art Show is the Maasch/Rubick Family in memory of Thomas M. Rubick. The Supporting Sponsor is Lane Forest Products.
Acer Boling-West, 17 years old, from Churchill High School, has had a lifelong love and passion for art. Having drawn for many years, Acer took up painting three years ago, and displays an intriguing acrylic painting, The Sun and the Moon, in the 2022 Mayor’s Teen Art Show. Acer describes the work in this way: “I tried to challenge myself with this piece and go out of my comfort zone with bolder shapes and colors, and a darker and more abstract theme.”
Cailin Stewart, 17 years old, from South Eugene High, has participated before in the Mayor’s Teen Art Show. She exhibits four pieces in the 2022 show. Cailin, who has always been creating, has a special love of painting and photography, sometimes combining the two mediums in her work. A particularly striking work, titled Artist Perception, features a woman’s face painted in an expressionistic style with vivid colors. Cailin says: “I am grateful to have found art and love sharing it with others.”
The 2022 Emerald Print Exchange, presented by Whiteaker Printmakers, includes a collection of 171 hand-pulled, fine art prints, including traditional woodcuts, etchings, and linocuts, created by national and international printmakers.
