Maude Kerns Art Center
WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT MAUDE KERNS ART CENTER?
A Social Perspective
While most people know that MKAC serves the art loving public as well as children and adult art students, we are also a job-training site.
We train:
-Looking Glass Youth
-Emerald Job Training Interns
-High School / College Interns from Lane Community College & University of Oregon
-Volunteers from United Way Employment Programs
Children's art education is vital to the well being of our community
Bored children can be "behaviorally at-risk" children. Did you know that art can be a powerful social tool for growth and self-esteem? Also consider - Art is basic to real education motivation. Synthesis of knowledge comes from the inner being to the outer expression. The learning of the creative process is the model "imprint" needed for successful integration of education.
Children need:
-Self-Esteem
-Ability to solve problems creatively
-Tangible accomplishments
The senior's experience is based in part on the role model of Maude Kerns herself.
Maude Kern's best-known modern work evolved when she was over 65.
Seniors need:
-Experience in Renewal
-Transforming Time to Joy of Creativity
-Welcoming Environments in the Community
Oregon artists have long looked to the Maude Kerns Art Center as a source of classes, studio space, support and contract teaching jobs.
Artists need:
-Studio & Gallery Space
-Professional Development Classes
-Teaching Opportunities
The Maude Kerns Art Center has a positive effect on the Eugene / Springfield economy.
