We hope that you have the oportunity to visit Lane County to see the Ken Kesey: Art & Artifacts Exhibit, as well as participate in the Kesey Bus tour on June 26th. While you are in the area, be sure to visit these other sites in Lane County:

1. Buford Park/Mt. Pisgah Arboretum: Enjoy three distinct natural habitats and visit the Kesey Memorials at the summit facing eastward toward the Kesey farm. Ken had a memorial built here for his son who was killed in a van returning to the U of O from a wrestling tournament. 2. Eugene Masonic Cemetery: 25th and University Streets, Eugene. Take a self guided tour through Eugene’s oldest cemetery where many early settlers of lane county are buried including: Eugene Skinner, John Whiteaker, (first Governor of Oregon) and Maude Kerns.

3. University of Oregon: A beautiful place with an interesting history including the birthplace of "Nike", the home of world famous runner; Steve Prefontain, the location for filming the infamous "Animal House" and Ken Kesey's alma mater where he also taught creative writing for one year.

4. Springfield Historical Museum: 590 Main Street, Springfield. Exhibits and information about the history of Springfield and surrounding areas.

5. Dorris Ranch Living History Farm. The nation’s oldest commercial filbert (a.k.a. hazelnut) farm.

6. Fern Ridge Lake Popular destination for waterskiing, windsurfing and sailing. Excellent area for viewing several species of waterfowl.

7. Willamettans: Co-operatively owned nudist club in beautiful Marcola featuring many recreational activities. Call first: 541-933-2809.

8. Coburg Antique District: Several antique stores located in period houses 5 miles north of Eugene.

9. Covered Bridges of Lane County: Lane County has 20 covered bridges, 17 are still open to traffic. The Cottage Grove area has 6 bridges which could be visited within 3 hours to and from Eugene. The Lowell/Fall Creek area bridges can be visited within 2 hours round trip from Eugene. For a more in depth trip: “Covered Bridges of the Willamette Valley” 130miles – 2 days.

10. Bohemia Mining District: Abandoned gold mines and ghost towns to be explored near Cottage Grove.

11. Log Cabin Inn: Historic Stage Coach stop located in the McKenzie River Valley ~45 miles east of Springfield on Hwy 126. Excellent Venison!

12. Leaburg Hatchery: View salmon and prehistoric sturgeon and enjoy a picnic lunch. Located ~ 30 miles east of Springfield on Hwy 126.

13. Haceta Head Light House: North of Florence on Hwy 101. Historic Lighthouse built in 1880’s and still in use. Light can be seen 20 miles out to see.

14. Sea Lion Caves: Walk 200ft below ground to giant caves. Spectacular opportunity to see hundreds of California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals up close. Fee. North of Florence ~ 10 miles.

15. McDonald Theatre Built in 1925 as a vaudeville theathre, the McDonald Theater was later converted to a movie theatre and is once again a world class venue attracting locan and international talents of all genres. Owned by the Kesey Family; they proudly support the Eugene Community as well as preserving the ambiance of an era gone by maintaining the period charm and decor of the McDonald.
