ART & VINEYARD ASSISTANT


Purpose
To help produce Art & the Vineyard, the Maude Kerns Art Center’s biggest annual fund-raiser.

Duties
Publicity and outreach. Compilation of a variety of databases, including media, visual artists for the various venues, and volunteers (individuals and organizations). Help with mailings as needed. Outreach to schools. Writing of public service announcements and press releases
.

Benefits
Good experience in helping produce a large art festival. References upon request. Invitation to volunteer celebrations.

Training
The Festival Coordinator will train you and provide ongoing support.

Qualifications
Some computer experience, comfortable on the phone, good organizational and communication skills.

Time Needed
6 hours a week minimum. Two term commitment required (winter and spring). Three terms preferred.


ARTIST RECEPTION VOLUNTEER

Purpose

To help make Opening Receptions successful.

Duties

May include the following: greet patrons, accept donations, help with beverage or food table. Assist with set up and take down, run errands prior to receptions; buy supplies for receptions, create reception/show signs. Sales transactions.

Benefits
Good experience helping a busy non-profit organization. Membership after 30 hours of service. Invitations to volunteer celebrations.

Training
On site orientation.

Qualifications
Work easily with others.

Time Needed
Usually Friday evenings 6 - 9:30 once a month.

CHILDREN'S CLASSROOM ASSISTANT


Duties
Assist art teacher with hands-on help in children's art classes. Assist with set-up and take down of tables, chairs, and art materials. Organizing, cleaning and preparing materials. Accompany class on field trips, and nature walks. Maintain safety standards for children.

Benefits
Excellent opportunity to learn about teaching art to children. Letters of recommendations available upon successful completion of volunteer job description. Membership to Maude Kerns Art Center available after 30 hours of volunteer service.

On the job training.

Qualifications
Enjoy art and children. Reliability a must. Experience working with children, and/or knowledge of child behaviors, teaching methods, and safety guidelines helpful, but not necessary.

Time Needed
Monday to Friday Afternoons from 3:15 to 5:15


COMPUTER SPECIALIST


Purpose
To keep the Centers computer system operating efficiently.

Duties
Advise staff on hardware and software purchases. Assist Executive Director in strategic technical planning. Provide assistance and training to staff on using the Center’s software. Perform software and hardware upgrades and installation.

Training
None.

Qualifications
Computer expertise, good communication and people skills.

Time Needed
3 - 6 hours a week, schedule to be determined with the volunteer coordinator.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS VOLUNTEER


Purpose
To help make possible the Dia de los Muertos celebration and fiesta, a traditional Mexican event.

Duties
Volunteers are needed to help with a wide variety of event related jobs:

Gift Shop
Exhibits Committee
Docents (exhibit tour guides)
Reception Committee (Working the doors, Refreshment table, clean-up, etc.)

Benefits

Gain experience in event planning, art exhibits, docenting, and more. Free membership after 30 hours of volunteering. (Memberships include opportunity to exhibit work in annual membership show.) Volunteer recognition in art center newsletters and at volunteer celebrations.

Dependability and flexibility area must.

Various shifts are available depending on area of event. Event itself is from October-November. Pre-event planning begins in the summer.



DONATION COORDINATOR


Purpose
To make contact with local businesses to procure donations for the center.

Duties
Make contacts with local businesses and organizations. Represent Maude Kerns Art Center.

Benefits
Great opportunity to improve networking skills. Letter of recommendation upon request. Be an important part of a non-profit arts organization. Membership after 30 hours of service.

Qualifications

Good telephone etiquette and public relations skills. Word processing skills, ability to keep accurate records, be professional and friendly, and follow through with commitments.

EDUCATION ASSISTANT


Purpose
To assist the education coordinator in running the art education program at Maude Kerns.

Duties
Assist with class schedule preparation which may include: researching and/or calling art teachers, writing class descriptions, input and layout of class schedule information, and proofing schedule for errors. Creating class sign-up book and sign students up for classes. Help create and distribute flyers. Assist with all aspects of the education program.

Education Coordinator will provide initial training and on-going support.

Qualifications

Some computer experience, comfortable on the phone, good organizational and communication skills.

GRANT RESEARCHER


Purpose

To research grants for Maude Kerns Art Center.

Duties

Gather grant related information using the web and library resources. Provide the Center with additional opportunities for funding.

Gather experience doing grant research, great on resume! Letters of recommendation upon request. Membership after 30 hours of service.

Qualifications

Creativity, experience doing web-based research. Own computer/internet connection is helpful. Experience in grant researching or writing would be a plus.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Duties
The position includes assisting us with the production of logos, various publications, flyers, and posters.

Qualification
We are looking for students who are currently enrolled in the Multimedia Design program and have a substantial level of experience with the following software titles: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Pagemaker, Macromedia Freehand, Macromedia Fireworks, (Knolwedge of Adobe Indesign,
Macromedia Fontographer, Corel Draw and QuarkXPress is preferred, but not required). Intern must show examples of previous print media, page layout, and graphic design work. A two term comittment is preferred.

Time Needed

MAIL TEAM
 

Purpose
To keep the membership and the public informed about the happenings at Maude Kerns.

Duties
May include the following: stuff envelopes, stick-on labels, collate, sort, organize pieces by zip code order.

Reliable, enjoy working with a group.

Time Needed

2-4 times a month. You don’t need to be available for all of them; I am looking for about 10 people to be on this team and we usually need 2-6 per mailing. Bulk mailings generally take place during the work day, in the morning or early afternoon.

MAINTENANCE PERSON


Purpose
To keep the Art Center building in good condition.

Duties
Assist with upkeep of art center building. Do electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, painting. May assist with exhibit coordinator in set-up and take-down of exhibitions.

OFFICE ASSISTANT


Purpose
To assist Administrative Assistant and/or Director and other staff with various tasks in order to keep the Art Center running smoothly.

Duties
1. Assist in answering/screening telephone calls and taking messages.
2. Assist in screening visitors.
3. Computer input/typing.
4. Run miscellaneous errands, e.g. purchasing supplies, stamps, etc. from local stores.
5. Update announcements/bulletin board.
6. Call students to remind them of upcoming classes.
7. Participate in bulk mailings and other special tasks.
8. Register students for classes.
9. Perform other office tasks as requested by staff.

Training
Orientation on office procedures and systems. Clear instructions from staff regarding specific job requests.

Qualifications

Monday-Friday, and some Saturdays; 10 am - 5:30 pm. Flexible.

JANITOR

Purpose
To keep the Maude Kerns Art Center looking neat and clean.

Duties
Vacuum and sweep floors including those in the art studio, dust and clean counters, shelves, etc. Clean kitchen area and bathroom, empty garbage cans, clean light fixtures in covered walkway, and sweep walkway.

Benefits
The Satisfaction of maintaining a clean environment at Eugene’s only non-profit community art center. References upon request. Membership after 30 hours of service. Invitations to volunteer celebrations.

Training
On-site orientation.

Qualifications
Reliable, hard worker, self-starter. Work with minimum supervision.

3-6 hours a week.

POSTER DISTRIBUTION TEAM


Purpose
To promote events at the Maude Kerns Art Center.

Duties
Be on call to hand out and post posters and/or handbills on a designated route (volunteer’s choice). Mount posters on windows or information boards, with the permission of the management, using tape or thumbtacks. Be personable and informative. Return excess to Maude Kerns. Note key places on your route to help develop/update accurate poster route information.

Benefits
Good job for a parent and child to do together. Fun way to interact with people in the community. Membership after 30 hours of service. Lots of appreciation from Center staff. Invitations to volunteer celebrations. Letter of reference.

On-site.

Qualifications
Interest in the Center and its events. Respectful of other’s wishes. Dependable.

2-4 hours, once or twice a month (more if desired). Work on your own schedule.

VISUAL ARTS MENTOR

Purpose
To explore art and ideas with children who share an enthusiasm for art.

Duties
Encourage the development of relationships to the students, develop student's skills in their chosen art medium and foster a lifelong appreciation of art. Provide them with an outlet for creative expression.

Be able to interact with children who are sharing common art interest. Invitations to volunteer celebrations. Letter of reference.

Qualifications
Interests in the visual arts and enjoy working with young people.
