By Hand ~ By Water ~ By Mind
Opening Reception : Friday, July 16, 6-8pm
Exhibit Dates: July 16-August 27, 2010
This exhibit features photographs, mixed media pieces, intricately sewn beaded works, sculptures, hand-drawn maps, and a video, “The View from the Canoe,” a documentation of the waterways in and around Seattle. Scott Schuldt’s artwork is remarkably wide-ranging, encompassing statements of political and social import created by painstakingly embroidering beads on canvas, as well as more conceptual pieces that document the waterways around Seattle and explore nature in an urban setting. He tackles large topics that touch upon science, history, and politics. Whatever the medium, Schuldt’s artwork is the product of what he calls “the documentation of my learning process,” a process that includes data gathering and research. Schuldt describes his work as “conceptual and content driven, often narrative … it may also be formed by the thoughts, meditations, and imaginations that occur during the building of a piece.”
