The Illustrated Word: An Exhibit of Letterpress Broadsides

The Illustrated Word: An Exhibit of Letterpress Broadsides
Opening Reception: January 11, 6pm-8pm
Exhibition Dates: January 11 - February 8, 2008
Over the past few years, the “Small Press Movement” in the United States has celebrated a resurgence of traditional printing techniques used to create letterpress broadsides, an art form historically used for making announcments or proclamations. Today, using moveable type and a hand-cranked cylinder press, contemporary printmakers work with visual artists, poets, and writers to create beautifully crafted, limited edition artwork, which showcases both the visual and literary elements of this art form.
